New church plant gathers momentumThe newest church plant in EFC-MAYM is Crossroads Friends, which started meeting in September in Northeast Wichita (KS). Three members of the Crossroads Leadership Team attended the Covenant Church Planter Training in
Detroit
last August to learn the four-stage launch process that Crossroads is following.
Stage One targets churched Christians with the goal of identifying a church planter pastor. In January, Jeff Mullen was called to lead the church. Jeff and his wife, Jana, took a Church Planter “360 Degree Assessment” administered by multiplying churches.org. The assessment affirmed Jeff’s calling. Jeff, a teacher at
Heights
High School
in
Wichita
, will be the bi-vocational pastor through June 30, 2008.
Stage Two reaches Christians. Stage Three aims to reach unchurched Christians and to begin meeting every Sunday morning for worship. In February, attendance at Sunday morning gatherings was already 65. Stage Four will seek a primary audience of unchurched non-Christians, using multiple strategies to draw receptive people.
