Evangelical Friends ChurchMid-America Yearly Meeting (EFC-MAYM) has begun a new training program for people who wish to serve in pastoral ministry part-time, full-time, or bi-vocationally, but lack traditional training.
The Institute for Pastoral Leadership Development (IPLD) is based upon foundational principles of leadership development, pastoral mentoring (coaching), and team building. IPLD will prepare pastors to be effective leaders, to discern giftedness among other church leaders, and to train those leaders for ministry. One key to IPLD is matching pastors with mentors (coaches), who will assist them in gaining practical skills and building fellowship and support groups for pastors.
The three-year curriculum is designed to cover major areas of study for effective church leadership through monthly classes. Director Dave Kingrey has recruited a strong faculty including college professors, teachers, and experienced pastors. Classes will be held at University Friends Church in Wichita, Kansas. To date more than forty persons have enrolled.
